Norway striker Erling Haaland responded to FC Augsburg’s Instagram reel about the hat-trick he scored on his Bundesliga debut for Borussia Dortmund seven years ago.
Arriving from FC Salzburg, the then 19-year-old Haaland made a dazzling start to life in German football, scoring all three goals as BvB won 5-3 at Augsburg on the opening day of the 2019-20 Bundesliga season. Coming on in the 56th minute, with Dortmund trailing 3-1, Haaland scored a 23-minute hat-trick to confirm the three points.

In an Instagram reel of Haaland coming on posted by Augsburg with the message “Instagram is so cool because I can post this video, and some guy named Erling will comment that he remembers his Bundesliga hat-trick debut against,” Augsburg tagged Haaland and wrote:
“We don’t need to talk about the final result, ok?”
The Manchester City striker responded:
“Sorry guys😂❤️.”

Haaland scored 62 times in 67 Bundesliga games across three seasons, including three hat-tricks, but the top-flight title eluded him, before he moved to his current club Manchester City in the summer of 2022 on a reported deal worth €60 million.

Erling Haaland has had a prolific stint with Manchester City since his arrival in the English top flight four years ago from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, scoring 162 times in 198 games across competitions.
In his debut season with the Cityzens, the Norway marksman struck an impressive 52 times and provided nine assists in 53 games across competitions as Pep Guardiola’s side won their first continental treble.
The tally included 36 strikes in the Premier League, where City completed a three-peat, with Haaland smashing the previous mark of most goals in an English top-flight season.
Last campaign, the 26-year-old bagged 38 goals, including 27 in the Premier League, to win his third Golden Boot in four seasons. He then netted seven times in five games at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada, where the Vikings made their first quarter-final, losing 2-1 in extra time to England, finishing fourth in the Golden Boot race.
