A former ladies’s basketball participant on the College of Nebraska is suing this system for not stepping in and taking applicable motion when her relationship with an assistant coach grew to become public.
Ashley Scoggin filed a civil lawsuit sharing how her relationship with then-associate head coach Chuck Love turned sexual and the way she feared retaliation if she refused to take part.
She is suing present head coach Amy Williams and athletic director Trev Alberts, and has named Love and the college’s board of regents as defendants. Williams and Alberts are accused of not offering coaching or insurance policies that prohibit employees members from having a sexual relationship with athletes.
In 2021, Scoggin had an internship with the athletic division at Nebraska after sharing that she want to coach sooner or later, in response to the swimsuit. Love invited her to work at a desk in his workplace, and he or she accepted, the swimsuit says. It goes on to allege that Love requested Scoggin private questions, and invited her to exit for drinks. After declining a number of instances, she accepted an invite, the lawsuit states. Love kissed Scoggins and requested, “Have you ever done anything with a coach before?” in response to the swimsuit.
Additionally from the swimsuit: Earlier than a recreation in opposition to Penn State in February of 2022, group members and employees devised a plan to document Scoggin in Love’s lodge room. Two members confronted Scoggin, and introduced the video they took to Williams, which painted Scoggin as the one that initiated the relationship. “Williams cast Ashley in the role of a seducer and a liar,” the lawsuit mentioned. “She allowed the players to berate and accuse Ashley for hours. She did not redirect or counsel the players that what they had seen may be the result of an abuse of power by her associate head coach.”
Scoggin performed two seasons for the Cornhuskers from 2020-22. She was dismissed from the team the same day Love was suspended. Scoggin transferred to UNLV, the place she at the moment performs.
“It’s a very troubling and serious subject of predatory coaches that pursue sexual relationships with student-athletes,” Scoggin’s legal professional Maren Chaloupka mentioned to ESPN. “There’s an enormous imbalance of power between the professional coach and student-athletes. This is something that was well-known in 2022. College spokesperson Melissa Lee issued an announcement noting that the varsity was made conscious of the lawsuit.
As of this writing, Williams and Love haven’t commented on the swimsuit.
