The first match of IPL 2026 is officially in the history books. Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru cruised to a fantastic six-wicket win in the season opener against the SunRisers Hyderabad at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

RCB skipper Rajat Patidar won the toss and chose to field first. Jacob Duffy’s triple strike gave the early momentum to RCB, but opposition captain Ishan Kishan’s 80-run knock powered the Orange Army to 201/9 in 20 overs.

Chasing 202 for a win, RCB raced to 203/4 in just 15.4 overs, thanks to a magnificent half-ton from Virat Kohli. Here’s a look at the scorecard, award winners and top stats coming out from the clash between RCB and SRH in IPL 2026.

Ishan Kishan top-scored for the SunRisers Hyderabad with an excellent 38-ball 80 at number three. The stand-in skipper of the Orange Army smacked eight fours and five sixes at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Aniket Verma played a handy cameo of 43 runs to help SRH cross 200.

Jacob Duffy emerged as the pick of the bowlers for RCB on his debut. The New Zealand speedster returned with figures of 3/22 in four overs, dismissing Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Nitish Kumar Reddy.

Virat Kohli kicked off his IPL 2026 with a match-winning half-century. The right-handed batter remained unbeaten on 69 runs off just 38 deliveries, whacking five fours and five maximums. He received excellent support from Devdutt Padikkal, who aggregated 61 runs from 26 balls.

Impact Player David Payne was the best bowler for the visitors. He dismissed Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma to end with figures of 2/35 in three overs.

Debutant Jacob Duffy won the Man of the Match award for his dream spell of 3/22 in a match where more than 400 runs were scored. Duffy dismissed SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma in the third over of the innings and then got rid of Nitish Reddy in the fifth over.
