
Gen.G Esports swept Top Esports on Thursday to advance to the Knockout Stage at the $5 million League of Legends World Championship in Beijing.
Gen.G claimed its third victory in the Swiss Stage in the Round 4 High Match with a 25-minute win on blue and a 30-minute win on red.
Teams need three wins in the five-round Swiss Stage to reach the Knockout Stage, while teams with three losses are eliminated. All matches are best-of-one except for elimination and advancement matches, which are best-of-three.
Eight teams will make the Knockout Stage, a single-elimination bracket starting Oct. 28 where all matches are best-of-five. The winner of the Nov. 9 grand final will earn $1 million, with $800,000 going to the runner-up.
Gen.G joined G2 Esports, Hanwha Life, KT Rolster and Anyone’s Legend in the Knockout Stage.
Also Thursday, KOI eliminated Secret Whales with a 2-1 victory in a Round 4 Low Match. After Secret Whales opened with a 35-minute win on red, KOI answered with 35- and 29-minute wins, also on red.
