Jameis Winston took over as the New York Giants’ starting quarterback after Jaxson Dart’s injury in Week 2. He led the offense during the team’s 12-7 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
However, a day later, coach John Harbaugh decided to bolster the quarterback room. They traded a 2027 fifth-round pick to the Minnesota Vikings for J.J. McCarthy. This raised questions about Winston’s position on the depth chart.

During Monday’s press conference, Harbaugh clarified that despite this move, Jameis Winston will remain the starting quarterback.

“Yeah, Jameis is starting,” Harbaugh said. “You guys asked me that last night. He’s our starting quarterback. And that’s how we’re rolling. We’ll be ready to play this next game, going forward. Excited about Jameis. I think we’re gonna find ourselves. We won the game (against the Titans). We did what we had to do to win the game.

“I think Jameis did all the things as a quarterback that we needed to do to win that game. But that doesn’t mean that’s where we stand. We’re gonna keep growing. There’s gonna be new challenges in front of us. He’s not gonna be coming into a game kind of out of the blue, so to speak. … I’m looking forward to see where we go.”
Jameis Winston joined the Giants on a two-year, $8 million deal in March 2025. Last season, he saw time in three games and recorded 567 passing yards and two TDs. Against the Titans on Sunday, he completed 14-of-22 passes for 118 yards and no touchdowns.
Meanwhile, J.J. McCarthy joins the Giants after a disappointing 2025 campaign. He was the Vikings’ third-string option this year behind starter Kyler Murray and backup Carson Wentz.
Jameis Winston dedicates Week 3 victory to Jaxson Dart
Despite a relatively quiet night, Jameis Winston was happy with the Giants’ 12-7 victory over the Tennessee Titans.
After the game, the quarterback said that the victory was dedicated to Jaxson Dart while he rehabilitates from his injury.
“Belief. Faith. There was no doubt on the sideline that it was going to happen,” Winston said as per FOX News. “Obviously, we are our brother’s keeper. Winning this game for Jaxson. Twelve points. Six times two. It’s for you. That’s twelve
“So, we found a way to will to get this. Then (Brian Burns) went down. So, we had to find a way to be our brother’s keeper. But we never lost faith. We kept going. And our objective was to be 1-0. One play at a time.”
The Giants are next scheduled to face the Arizona Cardinals on Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. ET.
