BTS’ Jimin drew attention for his airport fashion on July 31, 2026, as the group headed to New York for their next concert in the United States. Shortly after his appearance, the Dior striped sweater worn by the singer reportedly sold out in most available sizes.
Jimin was spotted at the airport alongside fellow BTS members Jin, Suga, RM, and V. Jungkook and j-hope had reportedly departed earlier due to their respective individual schedules.
For the trip, Jimin opted for a black-and-white striped Dior sweater, which he paired with blue denim pants and a black newsboy cap. The singer was seen waving and briefly interacting with fans and members of the media gathered at the airport.
Photos and clips of the BTS members quickly circulated across social media, with Jimin’s outfit becoming one of the talking points among fans. Attention soon shifted to the Dior sweater after fans noticed that on the selling website most of its sizes were no longer available for purchase, with only the XL size remaining available.
The development prompted a wave of posts from fans on X. Many of them pointed to Jimin’s influence on fashion and consumer interest. Social media users noted that the item became unavailable within hours of Jimin being photographed wearing it during a single public appearance. One fan wrote:
“THE MAIN GLOBAL IT BOY”
Fans celebrated what they called the “Jimin effect,” pointing to the sweater’s quick sellout as a reflection of his influence in fashion. Others hailed him as a “fashion icon”.
Other fans said the sellout was unsurprising given Jimin’s track record of generating interest in items he wears, while praising his influence as a Dior ambassador and continuing to call him an “It Boy.”
BTS’ Jimin’s FIFA World Cup jersey sells for $110,000 at Christie’s charity auction
Jimin had recently made headlines for another fashion-related milestone as his stage-worn jersey from the 2026 FIFA World Cup commanded a six-figure price at auction. On July 29, 2026, the BTS member’s custom jersey sold for $110,000 at Christie’s “One Goal: An Auction to Benefit the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund.”
The final bid was significantly higher than its initial estimate of $3,000 to $5,000. It also tied with the official FIFA World Cup Final match ball as the highest-selling item in the charity auction. The white-and-red No. 7 jersey, created by Agro Studio and adorned with BTS patches, was worn by Jimin during the group’s performance of Dynamite at the FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show.
Following the auction, several fan accounts on X highlighted that the jersey’s selling price made it rank among some of the most expensive garments previously auctioned by Christie’s. Jimin’s jersey now ranked with pieces worn by various cultural figures including Audrey Hepburn’s black dress from Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Princess Diana’s “Travolta Dress” and Elizabeth Taylor’s gown from the 1969 Academy Awards.
Christie’s online charity auction ran from July 22 through July 29. The proceeds from the sale benefited the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund and its efforts to improve access to education and sports opportunities for children in underserved communities.
All seven BTS members contributed some of their stage-worn items from their World Cup performance. Collectively, the group’s pieces raised $300,300 of the auction’s $652,630 total. In addition to Jimin’s $110,000 jersey, V’s scarf and Jungkook’s jacket each fetched $46,200. Suga’s pants sold for $33,000, j-hope’s gloves for $28,600, RM’s boots for $19,800 and Jin’s belt for $16,500.
Meanwhile, BTS is scheduled to continue the U.S. leg of its ARIRANG World Tour with two sold-out shows at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford on August 1 and 2.
