Green Bay Packers To Debut 1923 Throwback Uniforms Against Carolina Panthers – SportsLogos.Net News

The Green Bay Packers will debut their 1923-inspired throwback uniforms, which celebrate their first season as a publicly owned corporation, during Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers (1 p.m. ET on FOX).

The uniforms feature hand-painted “leather” helmets, navy blue jerseys with gold block numbers and three thin gold stripes on the sleeves that mimic the striping pattern on their 1922-24 long-sleeve sweaters, tan-colored pants and navy blue socks.

The jerseys did not originally feature numbers on the front, but similar to how the Pittsburgh Steelers were forced to modify their 1933 throwback uniforms that debuted last weekend, the Packers added them to comply with modern league standards.

Similarly, Green Bay wore 1929 throwback uniforms – which featured the same navy blue and gold color scheme – from 2010-11 and 2013-14 and they were paired with plain brown helmets that were supposed to mimic a leather design for the first two seasons.

This time, however, the Packers will wear a unique “leather” design that includes airbrushed straps, stitching, holes and shading. They closely resemble the helmets worn by the Illinois Fighting Illini as they celebrated the 100th anniversary of Memorial Stadium last fall.

One interesting aspect of Sunday’s game is that Green Bay will wear the uniforms against a team that didn’t exist until 1995 rather than their rivals, the Chicago Bears, who are one of just two current NFL teams that existed in 1923, joining the Arizona Cardinals.

They could still make another appearance for their Dec. 7 meeting, as teams are permitted to wear alternate or throwback uniforms four times each season. The Packers have one slot remaining, having worn their “Winter Warning” uniforms in wins over Washington Commanders and Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this year.
