Guess Moonbeam Ice Cream wasnt that deep

Benson Boone recently took to social media to joke about not receiving any nominations for the 2026 Grammy Awards. For the uninformed, the singer released his second album, American Heart, in June 2025. However, his album, including his pop hit Mystical Magical, failed to receive a single Grammy nomination.

On November 10, 2025, Benson Boone took to his Instagram Story to jokingly comment on his snub. He said he couldn’t believe Mystical Magical didn’t receive a nomination for the lyric “Moonbeam icecream,” which he hilariously added was “literally pure lyrical genius.”

“Once you know what my love’s gonna feel like/ Nothing else will feel right, you can feel like/ Moonbeam ice cream, taking off your blue jeans/ Dancing at the movies, ’cause it feels so,” Boone sings in Mystical Magical.

Several X users shared mixed reactions to Benson Boone’s Grammy-related Story, with one user writing:

“Guess moonbeam ice cream wasnt that deep.”

@PopCrave guess moonbeam ice cream wasnt that deep

Some fans doubted whether Benson Boone was upset about the snub.

@PopCrave him acting unbothered when he clearly is bothered

@PopCrave I genuinely don’t think he’s joking

@PopCrave Ouuuu hes mad mad

@PopCrave the concept of moon beam ice cream being nominated for a grammy

Others said the singer deserved to be nominated, claiming that he was “robbed.”

@PopCrave Benson is so talented He deserved some nominations for sure

@PopCrave He got robbed and he knows it 😭

@PopCrave I feel sorry for him and all the hate he gets. He’s such a sweetie pie who just wants to make the music he likes for his fans. BUT, if he made a tear jerker soulful/pop ballad, that would shut everyone up lol 💔

@PopCrave the way he actually did get snubbed tho …

Exploring the origin of Benson Boone’s “Moonbeam ice cream” lyrics

Benson Boone’s Mystical Magical is the fourth track from his latest album, American Heart, released came out this June. In the song, Boone repeatedly sings about “Moonbeam ice cream,” leading fans to wonder if the phrase held a hidden meaning.

According to Cosmopolitan, Boone admitted that he didn’t know what it meant in a TikTok video before the song’s release in April, adding that it became part of the lyrics as it felt right.

The singer explained how the lyric came into existence when he appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in June. Boone said he and his co-writer, Jack LaFrantz, were “very unserious” when they were together, adding that the line came during a “weird, kind of whimsical day.”

Boone told Fallon that the two were struggling to think of a lyric to match the melody when LaFrantz suggested, “Moonbeam ice cream, taking off your blue jeans.”

Boone said they decided to use it as a “placeholder” till they thought of a better line. However, he acknowledged that he grew to like the line after going back home and listening to it.

“We were just kinda having a day; it was a weird, kind of whimsical day. But, as we get on through the session, we kinda came to what’s called writers’ block. It’s when you have a melody already but you cannot think of a lyric. Like, you just beat it up and beat it up. Jack’s sitting there, and we’re kind of goofing off, and he just goes, “You know, what if you just did this?” It looked like he was gonna say something really good!” Benson Boone said.

He continued:

” We’d been sitting here for an hour, and I’m like, “This is it! Here we go!”, and he goes, “MOONBEAM ICE CREAM, TAKING OFF YOUR BLUE JEANS!”, and I was like, “You know what? At this point…” It was a placeholder for the day, and then we went home and listened to it and I was like, “You know what? Moonbeam ice cream? Hell yeah!”

In June, Crumbl Cookies launched a Benson Boone-inspired Moonbeam Ice Cream Cookie, which was described as:

“A mystical, magical chilled chocolate cookie packed with cookies & cream pieces, crowned with vibrant moonbeam ice cream-inspired lemon, berry, and marshmallow toppings, and finished with a sweet white drizzle and a final sprinkle of cookies & cream.”

Benson Boone was one of the nominees for Best New Artist during the 2025 Grammy Awards. However, Chappell Roan took home the award following the release of her 2023 debut LP, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.
