Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is reportedly set to part ways with the franchise when his contract expires at the end of the 2026 season.
Mayfield and the Buccaneers reportedly discussed a contract extension this offseason but failed to agree on a new deal ahead of this week’s training camp. NFL insider Ari Meirov reported that Mayfield will become a free agent at the end of the season.

Mayfield, who is coming to training camp without a new deal, reportedly wanted a deal that “reflects his performance.” Mayfield ranks 16th among quarterbacks in average pay at $33.33 million per year.

Baker Mayfield signed for the Buccaneers after failed stints with the Carolina Panthers and the Los Angeles Rams in 2022. After a strong debut season for the Bucs in 2023, Mayfield posted career-best 4,500 passing yards with 41 touchdowns in 2024.
According to an ESPN report, Mayfield is grateful for the opportunity to resurrect his career with the Bucs.
“Mayfield has expressed fondness for the Buccaneers giving him an opportunity to resurrect his career as a starting quarterback, but he also feels he helped them too, when they needed a starting quarterback in the post-Tom Brady era,” the report read.
