Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes Manchester United should appoint Unai Emery as the next manager. He claims that the Aston Villa manager is the ideal replacement, as he has done everything to earn another chance at the big club.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher said Aston Villa staff praise Emery for running the whole club. The Liverpool legend compared it to Sir Alex Ferguson’s tenure at Manchester United, adding that it is exactly what the Red Devils need.
Thanks for the submission!
The former England defender also believes Emery still dreams of winning the UEFA Champions League and will have a better chance of doing it with the Old Trafford side than with Aston Villa. He said:
“He [Unai Emery] is a manager I look at when I think about Manchester United. People say behind the scenes at Aston Villa, he runs the whole club. Sir Alex Ferguson did that at Man United. It’s not just the United way; it’s the way in football generally. I think Emery is the best manager in the Premier League. But I’ve got this thing with him. Yes, his record in the Europa League is amazing, but surely somebody who is that successful wants to be known in the Champions League?”
“He wants to win the Champions League. He’s not going to do that at Aston Villa. He’s had two experiences that haven’t gone particularly well for him, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal. And I just think surely he would want that opportunity to prove himself at an absolute giant of a football club. Sorry, Villa fans.” (via Metro)
Unai Emery has not been linked with the Old Trafford job, while Brighton & Hove Albion boss Fabian Hurzeler has already said that he wants to stay at his current club.
Jamie Carragher wants Manchester United to sack Michael Carrick
Jamie Carragher has called for Manchester United to sack Michael Carrick following the defeat to AFC Bournemouth. He claims the Red Devils need to decide quickly on the manager’s future, as things have not started well this season. He said:
“He needs to be relieved of his duties tonight. Not just for the good of Man United but also for the good of Michael Carrick. Manchester United need to make that decision tonight.”
The Red Devils have been linked with Antonio Conte, Julian Nagelsmann, and Eddie Howe, all of whom are currently without a club. The German was relieved of his duties as the German national team coach after the FIFA World Cup, while Howe and Conte parted ways with Newcastle United and Napoli, respectively.
