Hours after Sean McDermott’s firing, Bill Belichick to Bills proposed by ex-NFL HC to assist Josh Allen win Super Bowl

Bill Belichick remains a person of interest in the NFL, even after stating he has no plans of returning to the league. After ending his 24-year tenure with the New England Patriots after the 2024 season, he joined the North Carolina Tar Heels for his first-ever college experience.

After a 4-8 season, Belichick remains eager to make the Tar Heels relevant again. However, as he prepares for another season, NFL rumors continue to circulate. After the New York Giants fired Brian Daboll mid-season, Belichick was named a potential candidate for the “Big Blue.”

Now that another New York team is looking for a new head coach, Rex Ryan mentioned Belichick as the perfect candidate to get them over the hump.

“I thought this could’ve happened three years ago,” Ryan said of the Buffalo Bills firing Sean McDermott during Monday’s edition of ESPN’s “Get Up”. “Everybody looked at me like I had three heads at a guy I thought they would move to, or try to make a move for, was actually Bill Belichick.”

Ryan added that Daboll could join Belichick’s staff, as well.

“If you want to bring in Brian Daboll, bring him back as the offensive coordinator with Belichick as the head coach. I’m telling you, ‘You’re crazy,’ we’ll see how crazy I am.”

Bill Belichick won six Super Bowl champions as a head coach (eight in total) in New England, creating one of the best dynasties in NFL history. It’s hard to imagine him returning to coach an AFC East team, especially after his most recent comments.

Bill Belichick shot down possibility of returning to the NFL

A couple of weeks ago, Bill Belichick explained where he stands on the possibility of returrning to coach in the NFL. He made it clear that he is focused on helping UNC.

“I’ve heard plenty of that,” Belichick said, per Sports Illustrated. “Nothing’s changed. I’m where I was a month ago. I’m here at North Carolina. I really appreciate the love and support we’ve gotten from the community down here, from the school, from Chancellor [Lee H.] Roberts, ADs Bubba Cunningham, Steve Newmark. Work with Mike Lombardi and our staff here, we’re building a good program and I’m excited for the direction we’re headed in.”

Belichick spent 29 years coaching at the highest level, winning 302 games on the way to six Super Bowl championships.
