How do you come to that conclusion if ‘you hardly watch tennis’

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz’s unreal domination over the last few years has many analysts and tennis fans comparing them to the prime of Big 3, including Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

Sinner and Alcaraz combined have yet to concede a single Grand Slam over the last two years. Even in 2025, they split the major tournaments and looked unbeatable in the remaining ATP tournaments. This was similar to what Big 3 used to enjoy.

The latest to chime in on the debate between Big 3 and Jannik Sinner-Carlos Alcaraz is retired Ukrainian tennis player Alexandr Dolgopolov, who made a controversial comment, claiming that Sinner and Alcaraz were not at the same level as that of Big 3.

“Hardly watch tennis these days, but how I see it compared to our age: Sinner/Alcaraz best days probably equal to big 3, overall less solid than any of big 3. Top 3-15 much weaker than our age. 15-50 about similar. 50-100 modern players are stronger than our age. Peace🫡🇺🇦,” he tweeted.

However, fans were not convinced by his statement as they hit back with criticism of their own.

“I mean you already say you hardly watch tennis. Sinner and Alcaraz will hold their own over any big 3 in their prime,” one fan wrote.

“How do you come to that conclusion if “you hardly ever watch tennis”?” another fan asked.

“Sinner, Alcaraz overall less solid than big 3? Shut the F up if you don’t watch tennis these days,” one fan added.

“Hmmm the natural response is: If you “hardly watch tennis these days”… How would you come to these conclusions and also why does your opinion matter?” one fan questioned.

“This is probably the sane and logical take. On an average players have become much better than previous decades. Being a top 100 is marginally tougher to attain and even tougher to maintain. Top 50 quality seems similar. Top 20 and top 10 is where the quality is not great. Back in the day this used to be insane with many slam finalists and 1 slam winners in top 10/top 20. Sinner and Alcaraz on their day are big 3 level,” one fan added.

“Tennis is at a different levels these days. My personal opinion is that Sinner/Alcaraz can definitely beat the big 3 in their heydays,” one fan commented.

“You’re telling me any of the big 3 will survive what sinner is hitting right now on any surface? 😃 😀 😄 😁 🤣” one fan said.

Big 3 domination vs Jannik Sinner-Carlos Alcaraz stats

What Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz did in the last two years was done by the Big 3 of men’s tennis during their prime. The trio of Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal won 66 men’s singles Grand Slam titles. Most notably, since the 2003 Wimbledon Championship, 62 major tournaments were played, out of which 51 were won by Federer/Nadal/Djokovic.

Even in rankings, the Big 3 occupied the ATP world No. 1 ranking for 947 weeks across them: Federer 310 weeks, Nadal 209 weeks, and Djokovic 428 weeks.

On the other hand, Alcaraz, despite being just 22, is already a six-time Grand Slam champion. 24-year-old Sinner is also a four-time Grand Slam champion already. Alcaraz is the No. 1 ranked player currently and if the first two years were any examples, Sinner and the Spaniard could very well match those feat if they continue to stay on top of the rest of the field.
