ARK Survival Ascended’s Lost Colony map features so many amazing creatures to tame, including the Desmodus. Unlike the Gigadesmodus, you can tame the smaller, but just as aggressive bats. They appear in the wild, though there is one cave where you can find huge swarms of them. You’ll have to be careful though, because it’s definitely a challenging area to navigate.
It’s recommended you not try and tame one in a swarm, but instead, trigger and pull a Desmodus that’s by itself in ARK Survival Ascended Lost Colony. This is so you don’t potentially get overwhelmed and die trying to get one of these creepy bat creatures. Here’s where and how you can claim one for yourself.
How to find a Desmodus in ARK Survival Ascended Lost Colony

You can find the Desmodus in ARK Survival Ascended Lost Colony’s map at the coordinates 38.3, 20.2. Head to this area, northwest of the main city, and you’ll find a cave with purple glowing rocks outside of it. We’ve highlighted the location and the outside of the cave in the screenshot below.
For the most part, you’ll just keep going straight, following the path in the cave. Just keep exploring the cave until you find a huge open area with a waterfall pouring from the ceiling. You’ll find plenty of Desmodus throughout this open cavern, especially on the ceiling.
While they can come in swarms, it’s recommended you have a ranged weapon to pick one off and aggro it to you by itself. However, this is still a dangerous cave, and you’re likely to see lots of foes on the official servers. If you’re playing on a private server, it’s much easier, that’s for sure. When in the cave, the ideal coordinates are 49.0, 32.3 to find the cave of Desmodus in ARK.
ARK Survival Ascended Lost Colony Desmodus taming guide
You’ll want to have quite a few Blood Packs with you to tame a Desmodus, so I recommend bringing quite a few with you. This cave can be dangerous on the official servers, so you might want to have a box and a bed to store items, and to respawn.

What you’ll do is use a Blood Extraction Syringe to drain your health into Blood Packs. Then when your health is low, just respawn to the bed, so you’ll be good to go. You can store the Blood Packs in the box as well, so you’ll have plenty. Ideally, it sounds like you’ll want 50-100 Blood Packs, depending on your server settings.
Bring a solid ranged weapon and a spyglass, so you can easily look at the ceiling, and shoot one of the Desmodus in this ARK Survival Ascended cave. It will certainly give chase to you.
The Desmodus will begin draining a bit of your health, and your Blood Packs, so have as many as you can. I know I said 50-100, but more probably couldn’t hurt. Draw the Desmodus down to where your bed(s) are, and let it start draining your Blood Packs.

This will also fill the Desmodus’ taming meter. When it gets to 100%, you’ll successfully have landed a Desmodus in ARK Survival Ascended Lost Colony. If you get a swarm of the bats, they’ll all be draining Blood Packs, which can be dangerous. If you run out of Blood Packs, they drain a lot of health instead. You can also make a saddle for these, which requires the following resources:
- Fiber x180
- Metal Ingot x45
- Hide x260
- Wood x120
What’s the console command to spawn a Desmodus in ARK Survival Ascended Lost Colony?
If you want to just spawn a wild Desmodus, because you don’t want to risk going into the cave, that’s certainly a possibility in ARK Survival Ascended. Below we’ll give you the code for both a Wild and Tamed Desmodus, so you’re ready to go:
- Tamed: cheat gmsummon “Desmodus_Character_BP_C” 60 (Level 150)
- Wild: cheat SpawnDino “Blueprint’/Game/Fjordur/Dinos/Desmodus/Desmodus_Character_BP.Desmodus_Character_BP'” 500 0 0 150
All Desmodus abilities and controls
One of the great things about the Desmodus is by killing creatures, you gain Blood Packs. This will make using the Blood Forge easier, as well as making Red Element, which requires Blood Packs to create. It’s great for traveling the map, and it’s a fantastic PVP option, if that’s your thing.

Its LMB attack is a piercing screech that scares many enemies. This ability also serves as an echolocation pulse to highlight living entities nearby. It also inflicts a 20% damage increase onto any creature at night, which is useful. Its RMB attack snatches up smaller creatures, and while you hold it down, it drains their life, when you activate the Life Steal ability.
At night, it can vanish into thin air while you’re riding it, in addition to Night Vision, which can help navigating dark caves and other areas. It does show a red tint to the world, but it’s incredibly useful.
Another great feature is, if you have a saddle for it, you can make Sanguine Elixir via the crafting option in its inventory, for 200 Blood Packs. You can add the Elixir to your hotbar to boost Taming and Imprinting by 30% (once per creature).
Thanks to Sanguivore, it can consume Blood Packs to heal itself, but there is a cooldown so you can’t just keep triggering it. You can also fly the Desmodus in caves, making it one, if not the best flying creature in the game.
It also has Berserker, which, when Desmodus takes damage in flight, resets the cooldown on its main bite attack. If you’re good at flying, you can land quickly, to repeat attacks and get way more DPS out of Desmodus. When you pair that with Sanguivore, you’ve got a deadly PVP/PVE monster.
