A former WWE star made a massive accusation against the top AEW star, Mercedes Mone, after their recent setback. The CEO has been suffering from a downward spiral lately.
The ex-WWE star, Athena (fka Ember Moon) accused Mercedes Mone of costing her a match. After winning the TBS Championship on her AEW in-ring debut and carrying it for more than 580+ days, Mercedes has been on a massive downfall lately. A few months back, Mone had a total of 13 title belts, and now she is down to 9 after losing a lot in the past few months.
Meanwhile, Mone’s occasional tag team partner, Athena also teased a rift between them. At Worlds End 2025, Mercedes and Athena failed to capture the AEW Women’s World Tag title from Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron, as Mone got pinned by Willow. The Fallen Goddess was not pleased with Mone after the match as well.
Taking to the X social media platform recently, Athena shared a picture with The CEO and apparently accused her of costing them the Women’s World tag title match with the following statement:
“It should have been us, but she couldn’t lock in…”
Mercedes and Athena also teamed during the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship tournament a few months back in hopes of becoming the inaugural champs. However, they got eliminated in the quarter finals after losing to Babes of Wrath.
Mercedes Mone’s reign of terror in AEW ended recently
After getting pinned by Willow Nightingale at Worlds End 2025, Mercedes Mone put her TBS title on the line against Willow on Dynamite the following Wednesday. After an amazing back-and-forth encounter between two talented performers, Willow managed to get the win over Mercedes and ended her TBS title reign of terror after 580+ days.
It was a full-circle moment as Mone had defeated Willow to capture the TBS title on her AEW in-ring debut in 2024.
