“I make them be in the position I want”

American jiu-jitsu star Teshya Noelani Alo of Hawaii believes she has a stark advantage on the mats compared to the competition.

Growing up training wrestling and judo, Alo transitioned to BJJ, carrying a multitude of different skills with her.

In a recent interview with Jits Magazine, Alo talked about what sets her apart from the rest of the pack:

“And it clicked for me where I was able to, I was doing good in jiu-jitsu in the beginning because of my wrestling. If you’re a wrestler transitioning to jiu-jitsu, I think that’s like an unfair transition sometimes, just because jiu-jitsu grapplers are very talented and very different.”

Alo continued:

“But wrestling is a lot of it is just drive, like driving into the opponent like not really it’s very forcing, whereas jiu-jitsu is kind of more like a cat and a mouse game like where you like catch them or you do something technical where I would use my wrestling and judo as like a lot of force and just I make them be in the position I want.”
