Conservative podcaster Candace Owens reacted after Kanye West issued an apology for his past antisemitic actions. On Monday, West issued a lengthy statement via The Wall Street Journal and blamed his bipolar disorder for his past antisemitic remarks.
West wrote that during a “fractured state” of his life, he “gravitated toward” the symbol of the swastika. He expressed regret and deep mortification over his past antisemitic actions and took accountability.
“It does not excuse what I did, though. I am not a Nazi or an antisemite. I love Jewish people,” Ye wrote.
Candace Owens has shared a close association with the rapper and is known for her stance against Israel. On the Tuesday episode of her podcast, the political commentator reacted to West’s statement and said that Kanye West was like a brother to her and she would never turn her back on him. The podcaster said that she sometimes agrees and sometimes disagrees with Ye. She added:
“If he wants to apologize to people that he specifically has hurt, he is welcome to do that… This has nothing to do with my viewpoints whatsoever on Israel, people who mass murder children. I support Ye in everything that he does… Ye is always doing something whatever he wants to do. And the reason why he and I get on so well is because Ye’s got to be Ye and Candace has got to be Candace. It’s just how it works.”
On January 10, Candace Owens penned a post on X and shared that she wanted to use a short sample of Kanye West’s music for the intro to her podcast but refused to pay licensing fees to labels that hold Ye’s music rights. She targeted music labels for exploiting artists. She went on to demand a new law.
“I feel like in the future there needs to be a law that after the industry moves to conduct, in effect, a public slave hanging (like Daily Wire did me) they should be required to release that person’s likeness, social channels, voice and whatever else they may have once owned,” Owens posted.
What more did Kanye West write in his letter?
In his open letter, Kanye West shared that 25 years ago, he was involved in a car accident, due to which he suffered head injuries. He added that at the time, no accurate diagnosis had been made. West shared that in 2023, after comprehensive scans, he was diagnosed with frontal lobe damage.
The rapper then claimed that “medical oversight” caused serious damage to his mental health and led to a Bipolar Type-I diagnosis. Kanye West explained the consequences of bipolar disorder. The rapper claimed that he had lost touch with reality and had detached from his true self.
“The scariest thing about this disorder is how persuasive it is when it tells you: You don’t need help. It makes you blind, but convinced you have insight. You feel powerful, certain, and unstoppable,” West said.
In addition to apologizing to the Jewish community, the rapper also apologized to the Black community.
Kanye West concluded by saying that he was not asking for ‘sympathy,’ though he hoped to earn forgiveness.
