Instagram Will Now Enable You to Pin Your Own Post Comments

Instagram is rolling out the option to pin your own comments on your posts, which will provide another way to expand upon your text captions, and add additional info within the comment stream.

Instagram added the option to pin comments back in 2020, with users able to pin up to three comments from users in-stream.

Instagram Pin Comments

But up till now, you’ve only been able pin comments from others, not your own.

Which makes some sense. I mean, why do you want to pin your own remarks, are you that egotistical that you need to dominate the audience response section as well?

Ego concerns aside, there are various ways in which you could use this, and as such, Instagram’s team has now added the option to pin your own replies.

As per Mosseri:

“A couple of weeks ago in my AMA, somebody asked me why you can’t pin your own comment. And we thought about it and you should be able to pin your own comment, because the whole point of pinned comments is that you should be able to shape that comment thread into whatever you want, because it’s your post in the first place. So we’ve fixed it and now you can pin your own comments.”

It’s a relatively minor addition, but it could be a valuable one for adding context and additional insight on your updates.

Though you can’t, of course, add links. That would be a real change, in providing a means to add a whole other element to your IG posts. But no, you can’t do that, you can only add more text and GIF-based remarks on your own updates, which could enable you to provide more info, link to other profiles in the app, etc.

There’s a range of ways that this could be used, though primarily, I would assume that this will enable people to add updates on announcements, providing more context around what’s happened since, responses to common questions, etc.

And having these in the comments could ensure they get more attention than in the post caption, so it could be a valuable update for your approach.

Another consideration either way. Instagram says that it’s rolling out the option from this week.
