Moments after she heard gunshots, Chasitty Logsdon, a 39-year-old nurse from Louisville, Ky., stated she ran over to a person on the bottom close by, blood pooling round him. A lady beside the person advised Ms. Logsdon that he had been shot within the head, so Ms. Logsdon took his pulse and began doing compressions. As soon as medics arrived, Ms. Logsdon stated, they took over. She stated she knew she needed to do what she may to attempt to save the person.
“If that was my someone,” Ms. Logsdon stated she remembered pondering, “I would want the same thing.”
The governors of Kansas and Missouri have been each on the rally. Gov. Laura Kelly of Kansas needed to be evacuated, and she or he posted on social media that she had been taken “out of harm’s way.” Gov. Mike Parson of Missouri and his spouse have been each “safe and secure,” the governor’s workplace stated on social media.
Quinton Lucas, the mayor of Kansas Metropolis, Mo., stated he was on the parade together with his spouse and mom, and was in Union Station when he heard gunfire.
“When you have people who decide to bring guns to events, when you have people who are deciding to try to mar events — celebratory ones, like this one — all of us start to become members of this club that none of us want to be a part of,” Mr. Lucas stated.
Kansas Metropolis gamers posted messages of assist on social media. Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback who led his workforce to victory over San Francisco on Sunday, stated he was “praying for Kansas City.” The tight finish Travis Kelce wrote that he was “heartbroken,” including, “KC, you mean the world to me.”
Gun violence has been falling in some components of the nation, however Kansas Metropolis, Mo., noticed a record number of homicides in 2023. There have been 183 murders last year, greater than the earlier document of 179 in 2020.
