“Is this the Patriots way?”: Cam Newton throws shade at Robert Kraft, Mike Vrabel amid Dianna Russini controversy

New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel has been in the limelight this week after his pictures with NFL reporter Dianna Russini at a resort in Arizona went viral on social media. Vrabel and Russini, both married to other people, were snapped embracing, holding hands, and lounging near the resort’s pool.

When former NFL quarterback Cam Newton caught wind of the Vrabel-Russini controversy, he slammed the Patriots coach, team owner, Robert Kraft and the franchise as a whole.

“Is this the Patriots way, ladies and gentleman?” Newton said on his “4th&1” show on Thursday. “The owner, the player, and the coach. Robert Crash, he got his past in the parlours. Who is the player? Stefon Diggs. … And now Vrabel.”

The Patriots hired Mike Vrabel in January 2025. He helped them reach the Super Bowl in his first year, but New England lost to the Seattle Seahawks in the big game.

Nonetheless, Vrabel exceeded expectations in his first year as Patriots coach, winning the AFC East title. Now, it remains to be seen if he can lead New England one step further to win the Super Bowl next season.
