In his media availability ahead of the Bengals season-opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Burrow addressed the tendency for concise statements to be parsed and sometimes taken out of context. Rather than taking offense, he views the phenomenon as part of the broader ecosystem that sustains the league.

“Things that we say are going to be interpreted in a lot of different ways. I’m very efficient with my words, and so that leaves a lot of room for interpretation sometimes,” Burrow said. “That’s fine. No. 1, it brings attention to the league, and that’s a big reason we get paid so much money.

“It is because people care about it, people want to watch it, people watch these shows and want to watch us on Sundays and love us and hate us and everything in between. That’s what’s so great about the game. People have a right to say and write whatever they want.”

The comments came as Joe Burrow clarified his “now or never” remark that a section of the media had interpreted as uncertainty about his long-term commitment to the Bengals. The quarterback has since emphasized his future in Cincinnati, noting he is “here for the long haul.”

Despite the level of disappointment experienced in the last couple of years, Joe Burrow has a lot of confidence in the Bengals team heading into 2026. Citing what the offseason has looked like, the quarterback didn’t hold back in expressing his raw feelings about the team ahead of Week 1.
“I just want to win this year,” Burrow said. “I just want to win. The rest will take care of itself. I think we’ll break a bunch of records eventually, but I think we’re going to have a really good team that has a chance to win every game that we step foot on the field for. I don’t know about you, but I could really feel it in my bones, in my soul, in OTA’s this year — different from years past.”
The Bengals team looks better on paper heading into the season. The offense was able to keep everyone together, giving Joe Burrow the solid option he’s always had. The defense, which struggled last season, added quality and depth to ensure better on-field results this season.
