A former WWE star was involved in an AEW-related controversy last year. She has now addressed this controversy.
Nixon Newell made a name for herself during her time in WWE, where she wrestled under the ring name Tegan Nox. Despite being a talented in-ring performer, she was very injury-prone, which prevented her from receiving a push by the sports entertainment juggernaut. Therefore, she was finally released from the Stamford-based promotion in 2024. Following her release, she went to work on the independent scene. She made her AEW debut last year on the 29th October episode of Collision, where she teamed with her real-life partner Miranda Alize against Marina Shafir and Megan Bayne. She and her partner were set to compete again on Collision against TayJay. However, they walked out of the taping since they wanted a longer match than three minutes.
During an appearance on The Wrestling Classic, Nixon Newell opened up about her controversial walkout. She claimed that a lot of dirt sheets spread a bunch of false information about the situation, and she even had to call them out.
“It just wasn’t meant to be, that’s how I’ll keep it, because I’ve said my side,” she said. “If people want to see the whole story they can go on my Twitch and watch it. A lot of dirt sheets like to spread stuff that isn’t correct and get false information and put it out there, which is what happened a lot last time and I called the dirt sheets out. Told them directly and they stopped reporting false information.” [H/T WrestlingInc.]
Former WWE star Nixon Newel clarified that there were no hard feelings about her walkout
The news of Nixon Newell walking out of an AEW Collision taping gained a lot of traction since she wasn’t signed to the company. Since then, a lot of people have commented on the situation.
During the same interview, the former WWE star said that their walkout wasn’t nearly as negative as the dirt sheets made it out to be. She also said that there was mutual understanding on both sides.
“Um, I don’t think so because there was never any negative — when we left, it wasn’t like we stormed out. It was an understanding on both sides, and both of, ‘Yeah, okay, cool. No worries, we get it’ and then we were like, ‘Okay, cool. Thank you for the opportunity.’ It was never anything negative until the dirt sheets made it negative.” [H/T Fightful]\
It will be interesting to see if the former WWE star will return to AEW.
