The Washington Commanders mutually parted ways with offensive coordinator Kliff Kingbury on Tuesday. However, it appears that several Commanders players were not too pleased with the decision.
Later on Tuesday, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels, along with a few other key offensive stars, were disappointed after the team announced Kingsbury had left the franchise after two years. Daniels was reportedly “blindsided” by the move, having vouched for Kingsbury during a press conference on Monday.
Thanks for the submission!
According to reports, the Washington players were of the understanding that Kingsbury would leave the franchise only if he was offered a head coaching job.

“My understanding is that key Commanders offensive players, including QB Jayden Daniels, are disappointed with the team’s decision to part ways with OC Kliff Kingsbury,” Schultz tweeted on Tuesday. “Daniels vouched for him to stay in his presser on Monday and was among those blindsided by the move. Offensive players on the team figured the only way Kingsbury would be gone is if he got a HC job.”

Along with Kingsbury, the Commanders also announced they were letting go of Joe Whitt Jr. as their defensive coordinator after a 5-12 finish in the 2025 season.

Daniels also broke his arm in Week 9 against the Seattle Seahawks. He returned briefly to play against the Minnesota Vikings a month later, but re-injured his arm, and the Commanders ruled him out for the season.
Daniels missed 10 games due to injury in 2025. He finished with 1,262 passing yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions, while adding 278 yards and two TDs on 58 carries.
