Jeremy Jacquet explains determination to affix Liverpool regardless of Manchester United and Chelsea curiosity

Liverpool’s latest signing, Jeremy Jacquet, explained why he joined the Reds despite interest from multiple other clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea.

Liverpool agreed a deal with Stade Rennes to sign Jacquet in February earlier this year. The Reds reportedly paid a £55 million fee up front, with a £5 million add-on fee to sign the Under-21 France international. A host of Premier League clubs were reportedly interested in signing him before the Anfield club completed a deal.

Speaking to Ouest France about his transfer saga, Jacquet said (via Metro):

“Honestly, a lot of false things were said! My brother and I were saying, “Where did that come from? I never said that!” It was the first time I’d seen my name linked to social media like that… But anyway, it means clubs are interested in you.

“I won’t say it happened quickly, because I took my time with this big step. But I quickly saw myself at Liverpool. I heard they came in at the last minute, but that’s not true. I’d been talking with them for a long time.”

When asked if Manchester United were one of the clubs interested in signing him, he said:

“For example, but also other clubs that haven’t been mentioned. It didn’t happen in a week.”

He then explained why he chose Liverpool and snubbed Chelsea despite interest from the Blues.

“I’m focused on football. I spoke with the management; the club’s history weighed heavily on my decision, but so did the project they offered me, he explained.

“At Chelsea, I felt there were quite a lot of [other] people. Whereas at Liverpool, apart from the fact that Virgil van Dijk is nearing the end of his career, training with him is going to be huge.

“He’s going to teach me so much. There’s also Ibou Konate, who can help me settle in. Training with guys like that, it doesn’t get any better than that.”

Liverpool target acknowledges interest from Reds with ‘big club’ comment

RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande has been linked with a move to the Reds this summer. Multiple clubs are lining up to sign the Ivorian winger, who is expected to cost €150 million this summer. When asked about the transfer interest in him, Diomande said (via Sport Witness):

“Yeah, I heard. But I don’t know if it’s going to be okay for everyone to pay that,” he said

“I’m not going to say Paris, Liverpool or Real (Madrid). But it would be a good idea to play for big clubs. Everyone has ambitions and every day you want to go higher.

“So, it was Leganés, today I’m a Leipzig player. I’m not going to hide my desires or my dreams. I want to play for a big club, of course.”
