Kana: Vero offers credit score to fallen Japanese foe Kana Morimoto with “full respect” after robust kickboxing battle

Myanmarese fighter Vero was victorious in her last match in ONE Championship. While she was thrilled with her triumph, she was gracious in victory, giving credit to her fallen opponent for putting up a tough stand.

‘The Kayan Leopard’ was a unanimous decision winner over veteran Japanese kickboxer Kana Morimoto in their atomweight clash at the promotion’s exclusive fight card offering, The Inner Circle, on May 22 at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

The two fighters had a competitive back-and-forth throughout the three-rounder, with Vero banking a lot on her aggression and pinpoint striking to overcome the steady assault of the former K-1 champion.

In a recent Instagram post, Vero looked back on the fight by sharing a carousel of behind-the-scenes photos and giving her thoughts on the win. It included expressing her thanks to Kana for mounting a tough stand that brought the best out of her.

Part of the The Tiger Muay Thai standout’s post read:

“I also want to thank my opponent with full respect for giving her best and making this such a great fight 🙏🤝”

The win at The Inner Circle was the fourth in five matches to date for the pride of Myanmar in ONE Championship, but first under kickboxing rules, having competed in Muay Thai previously. It also set her up for a possible shot at the atomweight world title currently in the possession of Thai star Phetjeeja.

Kana, for her part, dropped to 2-3 in the promotion with the defeat.

Vero open to facing Stamp Fairtex in a superfight

While she is in the conversation for a world title shot next, Vero is also interested in a possible superfight with Thai superstar and former three-sport world champion Stamp Fairtex.

She spoke about it in an interview with Bangkok Post combat sports journalist Nick Atkin back in February after her victory over Shir Cohen at ONE Friday Fights 143.

Having gotten wind of Stamp calling her out for a showdown, Vero expressed interest in it, saying:

“Of course, I will. I heard her say twice that she wants to fight me. So, sure. If she wants to fight me, I can fight her also. I don’t mind, I’m ready. I’m ready every time for fighting anybody, and everybody. I’m ready to learn and ready to fight.”

Stamp used to concurrently hold ONE Championship‘s atomweight Muay Thai and kickboxing belts, then later won the MMA gold. She made her return from a long injury layoff in November last year, but lost to Kana Morimoto by unanimous decision.
