Major US indices are buying and selling close to highs because the day works for the shut

The major US stock indices are trading near high levels for the day as the market works toward the close. The Dow industrial average is the biggest gainer of the 3 major indices with a rise of 1.35%. The gains are led by 3M in Sherwin-Williams which are up by over 3% each. Below are the top 10 movers in the down with home related stock including Sherwin-Williams, Home Depot, Caterpillar leading the way

  • Home Depot (HD): +2.52%

  • UnitedHealth (UNH): +2.54%

  • Travelers (TRV): +2.28%

  • Goldman Sachs (GS): +2.15%

  • Walmart (WMT): +2.10%

  • Caterpillar (CAT): +2.10%

  • American Express (AXP): +1.96%

  • Honeywell (HON): +1.71%

Financials such as Goldman Sachs (+2.15%) and JPMorgan (+1.61%) also contributed, though at a more moderate pace.

The S&P index is up by 0.87%. The NASDAQ index is up by 0.75%.

The small-cap Russell 2000 is also outpacing after relative weakness more recently. It is currently up 1.71% and trading at the highest level going back to December 2024.
