Massive Anthony Davis Return Update, Concerns Around Dereck Lively vs Heat (Nov. 24)

Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis could be nearing a return as he is listed as doubtful for Monday’s game against the Miami Heat. Davis has missed 13 consecutive games due to a calf strain, last playing seven minutes against the Indiana Pacers on Oct. 29.

He traveled with the Mavericks for Monday’s game and could suit up against Miami. The star center is averaging 20.8 points and 10.2 rebounds through five games this season. While Davis is making progress, veteran center Dereck Lively II remains out for Monday’s matchup.

He last played in Friday’s win against the New Orleans Pelicans and is set to miss his second consecutive game. Lively has struggled to find his footing this season, averaging 4.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.

The Dallas Mavericks also find themselves stretched thin in the backcourt with Brandon Williams being listed as questionable against the Heat. He is suffering from a back injury.

Moreover, Dallas announced on Thursday that Dante Exum is set to undergo a season-ending knee procedure. He was yet to make his debut this season after recording 8.2 points and 2.8 assists in 2024-25.

While the Mavericks find themselves running out of options for their backcourt, star guard Kyrie Irving is reportedly ahead of schedule in his injury recovery. Regardless, there’s still no timeline for his return.

The Dallas Mavericks’ injury struggles have undoubtedly contributed to the team’s poor record. Through 18 games, Dallas finds itself holding the 13th seed (5-13) in the Western Conference and has a record of 3-7 in its last 10.

Despite the poor start, No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg has been a bright spot, averaging 16.1 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists.

Dallas isn’t the only team that could see a star player returning as Tyler Herro reportedly plans to make his 2025-26 season debut on Monday. Herro suffered an ankle injury before the start of the season. He averaged 23.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 5.5 assists in 2024-25.
