Sourav Ganguly led India to the Champions Trophy and NatWest Series wins
Sourav Ganguly led India to two major international trophies during his time as skipper – the Champions Trophy and the NatWest Series, both in 2002. They topped their pool in the Champions Trophy and beat South Africa in the semi-final. The final against Sri Lanka was washed out due to rain, despite going into the reserve day. Hence, both teams shared the trophy and were declared joint winners.
The NatWest Series included England and Sri Lanka. Ganguly and his men defeated England by two wickets in a nail-biting final at Lord’s. In his international career, Ganguly scored over 18,000 runs across formats.
He played 113 Tests and piled on 7212 runs at an average of 42.17 with 16 hundreds and 35 half-centuries. In ODIs, he played 311 games, amassing 11363 runs at an average of 41.02 with 22 tons and 72 fifties.
