Although tipoff of the 2024-25 NBA season is still two months away, the Memphis Grizzlies’ new City and Classic Edition shorts were leaked in our forums on Thursday.

The red City Edition shorts celebrate the 50th anniversary of the ABA’s Memphis Sounds, with a stylized “G” inspired by the Sounds’ logo on the left leg.

The “G” is white with gold trim and a light blue drop shadow, which are pulled from the Grizzlies’ current color scheme, while the shorts are asymmetrical like many designs in franchise history.

Sources have indicated the matching red jerseys will feature a white “Memphis” wordmark across the chest in the Sounds’ font and include the same gold trim and light blue drop shadow as the shorts.

This seemingly blends the Grizzlies’ current branding, as their logo also appears on the waistband of the shorts, with the Sounds’ identity, which lasted just one season from 1974-75.

Memphis previously honored the sounds with Hardwood Classic uniforms during the 2015-16 season. They notably featured cursive names on the back of the jerseys.

Meanwhile, the Grizzlies will also celebrate their own 30th season this year by wearing their original Vancouver Grizzlies home uniforms in select games this winter.

The white shorts follow the same design as the turquoise Classic Edition uniforms that Memphis wore during the 2019-20 season, with a large bear clutching a basketball on the left leg and Native American markings as trim around the waistband and bottom of the right leg.

The white jerseys, meanwhile, will feature a vintage “Grizzlies” wordmark across the chest below a smaller “Vancouver” wordmark, as well well as matching trim around the collar and arm holds.

The Grizzlies played six seasons in Vancouver before relocating to Memphis ahead of the 2001-02 campaign, where they retained their logo – but not their uniforms – only switching their city name above the wordmark.
