The New York Mets were expected to be one of the biggest spenders in the offseason after the NL East franchise’s collapse in the second half of the 2025 season cost them a postseason spot.
Despite the expectations, the Mets have mostly added pitching depth in the offseason, along with the signing of Jorge Polanco. However, according to MLB insider Will Sammon, it could change with the signing of All-Star outfielder Kyle Tucker.
Sammon reported that the Mets front office deems the current roster as strong, but the addition of Tucker will “dramatically boost” their World Series chances.

“Unlike a vocal segment of the New York Mets’ fan base, club officials view their roster as strong,” Sammon wrote. “Reeling in a star like free-agent outfielder Kyle Tucker, however, would dramatically boost the team’s World Series odds.”
Meanwhile, the New York Yankees continue their pursuit of All-Star outfielder Cody Bellinger in free agency. The Yankees reportedly sent Bellinger a second contract offer this week.
Jomboy Media’s Chris Rose expects Bellinger and his agent, Scott Boras, to pursue a long-term deal. Rose said the All-Star outfielder could sign a five-year deal with a $30 million AAV.
Dodgers, Blue Jays rival Mets for Kyle Tucker signing
Apart from the Mets, two-time defending World Series winners the Los Angeles Dodgers are also linked with Kyle Tucker in free agency. The Toronto Blue Jays are also in the mix for Tucker.
Will Sammon reported that the Mets are looking for a short-term deal for Tucker, like they did with Pete Alonso last offseason. However, the Blue Jays are in for the long haul.
“The Mets’ preference is to offer a shorter contract length (probably less than four years) with a high annual average value. League sources expect the Blue Jays to go longer. Assuming they’ll act aggressively and given their history of swooping in and making deals with stars, the Dodgers loom as a contender.”
It remains to be seen which teams win the race for the four-time All-Star slugger, who was projected to earn a $400 million contract in free agency.
