All-Star outfielder Cody Bellinger is one of top free agents remaining in the market this offseason. With Kyle Schwarber and Pete Alonso seemingly evading the New York Mets, Steve Cohen’s team is now in strong pursuit of Bellinger.
The Mets have been rumored to show an interest in the All-Star outfielder over the last few weeks and according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, they are “all in” on Bellinger in free agency.
With Brandon Nimmo and Pete Alonso departing this offseason, the Mets have been on the lookout for an All-Star caliber bat and Bellinger fits the bill after his strong 2025 season with the New York Yankees.

Bellinger registered 28 homers, 25 doubles, 98 RBIs with an .813 OPS for the Yankees and has been linked with a return to the Bronx in free agency. The Mets will have to go against their fierce rivals in pursuit of Bellinger, much like they did with Juan Soto last offseason.
While the Yankees have been showing interest in bringing back Cody Bellinger, the Bronx Bombers are reportedly in pursuit of former closer Luke Weaver, who became a free agent at the end of last season.
Although Weaver didn’t have the best 2025 season, The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner reported that the Yankees have shown “genuine” interest in bringing back their star closer.
Luke Weaver “irked” by Yankees mechanical adjustments during 2025 season
The Yankees are among 10 teams interested in the 32-year-old closer. Earlier this offseason, Yankees insider Bryan Hoch reported that Luke Weaver was “irked” by the Yankees’ tactics in 2025.
“Weaver was irked late in the season about some of the mechanical adjustments they were pushing on him related to pitch-tipping — it seemed like he was trying to think about too many different checkpoints instead of just focusing on executing the next pitch,” Hoch wrote.
Hoch also reported that Weaver wanted to transition to a starting role after the 2025 season. However, Kirschner reported that teams want to sign Weaver as their closer, shutting down his dream of a role as a starter.
