Mexico vs Serbia Prediction and Betting Tips

As one of the three hosts of the upcoming FIFA World Cup, Mexico will be hoping for a successful tournament. Prior to that, though, they welcome Serbia to a friendly match in Toluca on Thursday.

While Serbia failed to qualify for the upcoming tournament in North America, they are definitely still a dangerous outfit who will look to push Mexico hard.

So can the World Cup hosts pick up a win prior to the start of the tournament this month?

Mexico vs Serbia Head-to-Head and Key Numbers

  • This match will be the first between Mexico and Serbia in over a decade, as they last faced off in a friendly match in November 2011. On that occasion, Mexico ran out 2-0 winners over a ten-man Serbian side.
  • Mexico have not played many competitive games recently due to not needing to qualify for their home tournament. They are, however, on a good run of form since the start of 2026. They’ve won five and drawn two of their seven matches this year, and most recently edged out Australia in a friendly at the weekend.
  • Serbia failed to qualify for the World Cup after finishing third in their qualifying group, with the nadir for them being a 0-5 thumping at the hands of England in Belgrade. Since then, they’ve lost two of their following three matches, most recently falling to Cape Verde in another poor result.
  • The upcoming World Cup will be the third hosted by Mexico, albeit their first as a co-host, with the 1970 and 1986 editions famously taking place there. Notably, Mexico made it to the quarter-finals in both of those tournaments, but have not been as far since.
  • Serbia will be without their two most dangerous forwards for this match, as both Dusan Vlahovic and Aleksandar Mitrovic are not part of the current squad due to injury issues. The duo scored six of Serbia’s nine goals during their unsuccessful qualifying campaign.

Mexico vs Serbia Prediction

At full strength, Serbia might be expected to give Mexico a very competitive match. However, the European side do not have their two main strikers for this game, and are coming in on the back of a poor loss to Cape Verde.

Mexico will naturally have more focus on the World Cup than this warm-up game, but they are on a good run in 2026 and will also want to sign off for the tournament with a win.

Given they have claimed some good results recently, it feels likely that they’ll pick up another victory over an under-strength Serbia here.

Prediction: Mexico 2-0 Serbia
