Miami Dolphins Celebrating sixtieth Season By Wearing Throwback Uniforms On Sunday – SportsLogos.Net News

The Miami Dolphins will celebrate their 60th season by wearing the home version of their 1966 throwback uniforms during Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, which kicks off at 1 p.m. ET on CBS.

The Dolphins have worn the uniforms – which feature white helmets with a gray facemask and their original logo on the sides, aqua jerseys with a traditional striping pattern on the sleeves and white pants – at least once every season since 2015.

Miami is 10-5 in the home version of the uniforms and 2-4 in the road version, which was added to the rotation in 2019 and naturally includes white jerseys. Both designs are complete with white socks with stripes that match the sleeves.

With just two games remaining after Sunday, this likely marks the only appearance for the home version this season. It’s also unclear if the road version will be worn against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Dec. 28 or at the New England Patriots in Week 18.

It wouldn’t be unprecedented for the road version to remain in the closet, though, as they were shelved during the 2022 season. Both sets were worn from 2019-21 and 2023-24, including losses to the Buffalo Bills and at the Green Bay Packers last year.

The Dolphins made five Super Bowl appearances and won two titles with this uniform design before switching to a version with their primary logo and smaller stripes on the sleeves in 1987, coinciding with the opening of Hard Rock Stadium – originally known as Joe Robbie Stadium.

The look returned briefly as part of the NFL’s 75th anniversary celebration in 1994 but was tucked away as Miami underwent redesigns in 1997 and 2013, the latter of which included a new logo that ditched the jumping dolphin and sunburst in favor of a swimming dolphin.

In addition to the uniforms, the Dolphins will paint a vintage design on the natural grass at Hard Rock Stadium. They always place their original logo at midfield but alternate between a diamond-shaped design and or a throwback wordmark in the end zones.

The diamond-shaped design typically used earlier in the season, when the Dolphins share their field with the Miami Hurricanes, while the wordmark – which is accompanied by a helmet and NFL logo – is often used in December and January.
