In the first Minecraft Live 2026 event, Mojang revealed the second game drop of the year, named Chaos Cubed. Several features of the game drop were also introduced, including a new cave biome called Sulfur Cave. This will be the fourth cave biome after Dripstone, Lush, and Deep Dark. It comes with new blocks, mobs, and unique status effects.
Here are more details about the new Sulfur Cave biome coming to the Minecraft Chaos Cubed game drop.
New Sulfur Cave biome arriving soon in the Minecraft Chaos Cubed game drop

Back in 2021, Mojang decided to massively change the game’s world generation by expanding the Overworld cave system. The developers stretched the underground world till Y level -64, and added a bunch of new cave generations, including the Dripstone, Lush, and Deep Dark caves. Later, many underground structures were added to the caves, like Ancient Cities, Trial Chambers, Trail Ruins, etc.
Sufur Caves is a brand-new cave biome in Minecraft Chaos Cubed, making it the first cave-related world generation feature released in a game drop.
In this cave biome, two types of blocks will generate: yellow-colored sulfur and orange-colored cinnabar. The biome will have random block generation with a few tall single-block towers made up of both the new blocks. This biome can generate in both deep and shallow caves, similar to Dripstone and Lush Caves.
The two new blocks that naturally generate in this region can be mined, processed, and crafted into bricks, chiseled, and polished blocks. Basically, they can be converted into various building blocks.

Apart from both new block sets, the Sulfur Cave will also feature sulfur pools or aquifers. These waterbodies will be aqua green in color and will frequently emit hydrogen sulfide gases because of potent sulfur blocks reacting with water.
Staying near these sulfur pools can be dangerous since the gases can inflict the nausea status effect. If players get the nausea effect while fighting hostile mobs, it can be quite tough to survive. Also, this cave biome will generate a lot more glow lichen than usual.
Lastly, this cave biome will be home to a brand new mob called sulfur cube. This creature will look similar to magma cube and slime, but will be passive in nature. It has a special ability to absorb different types of blocks and change its physical properties like bounciness, slipperiness, and weight.
