Major League Baseball’s role as America’s “National Pastime” will be on full display this July, as the league announced this afternoon how it plans to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States.
During all MLB games played on the 4th of July, clubs will wear stars-and-stripes-themed numbers, along with matching red, white, and blue caps and socks. A special “USA 250” patch, shown at the top of this post, will appear on each player’s jersey sleeve as well as the side of the caps during those Independence Day games. There will also be a line of special merchandise from outfitters such as Outerstuff, Antigua, and For Bare Feet (such as baseball caps, tees, hoodies and shorts) that will feature the MLB 250 logo.
“Baseball has been part of the fabric of American life since the sport’s creation,” said Uzma Rawn Dowler, MLB Chief Marketing Officer & Senior Vice President, Global Corporate Partnerships, in the press release. “Baseball brings Americans together, so as the National Pastime, we are proud to celebrate this special anniversary.”
MLB also announced that the 2026 All-Star Week in Philadelphia will see some USA 250 elements worked into the uniforms. The Home Run Derby on July 13 will see players wearing their regular home team jerseys with the stars-and-stripes numbers and USA 250 patch added. During the 2026 MLB All-Star Game the following night, players will again wear their standard club uniforms with the USA 250 sleeve patch attached.
Unfortunately, no visuals of the caps or jersey numbers had been released at the time this story was published. I will update when those become available.
Fans hoping to grab the caps, jerseys, or socks themselves won’t have to wait until July; the collection goes on sale beginning June 15 through MLBShop.com, Fanatics, and at the MLB Flagship Store in New York City.
