MLB Jersey Ads by Team – SportsLogos.Net News

On April 1, 2022, Major League Baseball announced its teams would be permitted to wear advertisements on their in-game uniforms starting with Opening Day in 2023. As of July 31, 2024, twenty-two (73%) of the thirty MLB teams have advertisements on their uniforms.

These ad patches can only be worn on jersey sleeves. They are limited to one patch per jersey and a maximum of 4″ x 4″ in size. Teams can only have one consistent ad patch per season, and their patch must have the same overall design across all of the team’s uniforms. All patch designs will be reviewed and approved by both the league and the player’s union. Patches advertising alcohol, gambling, or media brands will not be permitted.

The first MLB team to announce a deal to wear an ad on their uniform was the San Diego Padres, who made their partnership with Motorola official on April 19, 2022, two weeks after MLB permitted uniform advertising. The first team to actually wear an advertisement as part of this new system was the Boston Red Sox, who had an earlier start time on Opening Day 2023 and, therefore, were able to get their MassMutual patch out on the field first. The first on-uniform ad worn during an MLB game was by both the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets, who wore ads on their jerseys during their Opening Series in Japan on March 29-30, 2000.

The New York Mets changed the design of their original ad patch after only two weeks following complaints about its appearance from fans and the media. The San Francisco Giants swapped their jersey ad from Cruise to Chevrolet following the 2023 season after the Cruise company suspended operations in late 2023.
