All 30 Major League Baseball teams will wear special patches on the sides of their caps this weekend.
It’s Play Ball Weekend June 5–7, and players with all 30 Major League Clubs will wear patches on their caps to commemorate the occasion. The Play Ball Weekend logo patch features the text “Play Ball” in an all-caps sans serif, and “Weekend” in a bold slab serif, all of which is set with a playfully discombobulated baseline.
Play Ball Weekend is a coordinated series of events that take place around the world (in locations like Australia, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Egypt, New Zealand, and Nicaragua, per MLB) designed to engage young people in baseball. All 30 Major League clubs, 120 affiliated Minor League Baseball teams, and 61 unaffiliated Partner League teams will host activities like games, clinics, and skills competitions at their ballparks.
Play Ball Weekend will feature a slate of six nationally broadcast MLB games, as well as live streamed events called “Play Ball Live” hosted by CC Sabathia, Ken Griffey Jr., and Hal Reynolds.
MLB’s Play Ball initiative launched in 2015 and began with teams wearing patches on jerseys on Play Ball Day in 2016 (most memorably during that Jose Bautista – Rougned Odor brawl).
