Serena Williams’ former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, expressed his love for Novak Djokovic for not perceiving money like other players. This came after the Serb discussed turning down major deals because those didn’t align with his values.
Novak Djokovic has not only been the most successful player on the tour, but also someone who often expressed that he wants to live up to the true values of life. The 24-time Grand Slam winner had semifinal appearances in all Major tournaments and ended his season at the Hellenic Championships, where he extended his career win tally to 101.

Following that, the 38-year-old was in conversation with Piers Morgan, where he talked about his life and career, particularly how he remained true to himself by rejecting major brand deals that were tempting but didn’t align with his beliefs.
Serena Williams’ former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, opined on the Serb’s perspective and expressed his admiration for him, noting that such an attitude is rare among athletes whose earning potential is short due to a limited career window.
“That’s one of the reasons why I like Novak so much, and I’ve always said it. He’s a true person. Money will never make him do something that he doesn’t believe in. Oh, but it’s easy for him to do that because he makes so much money. Most of the guys who make the same amounts of money, they don’t turn down deals for personal beliefs. And second, don’t believe that people who have a lot of money don’t want a lot more money. Novak is one of the only guys for whom money is not a value, which is difficult to say for a lot of other people,” he said on his Instagram post.
“When you’re in tennis for 20 years, you earn nothing. And suddenly, because of all these 20 years of work, you can make money. When you’re going to be 35, career is over. You have to find another way to make money, which is not easy. So it makes sense for them to make as much money as they can during that short window that they have of maybe 10, 15 years in which they can make the money.”
Djokovic was scheduled for the year-end Championships in Turin, but a shoulder injury forced him to withdraw.
