The penultimate round of fixtures in the 2025-26 Scottish Premiership campaign commences this week and will feature Motherwell and Celtic renewing acquaintances at Fir Park on Wednesday. While the hosts are effectively one point away from confirming a fourth-placed finish and consequently a spot in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers, the visitors remain locked in a two-horse title race that is shaping up to be perhaps the tightest in Scottish football for 15 years.
Motherwell look set to crawl over the finish line in their pursuit of European football after winning just one of their last nine matches.
Thanks for the submission!
However, Derek McInnes’ men are responsible for breathing new life into the title race after denying Hearts maximum points in their 1-1 draw with the league leaders on Saturday.
The Well now sit four points clear in fourth place with two games to go and will guarantee continental football with a win on Wednesday, although their healthy goal difference means they already appear to have one foot over the line.
Celtic are determined to keep the Premiership crown in Glasgow and will do so with wins in their final two matches.
After seeing Hearts drop points some 14 hours earlier, Celtic knew they needed to play their own part when the 452nd edition of the Old Firm came around on Sunday.
Seemingly weighed down by the weight of the occasion, Martin O’Neill’s men found themselves a goal down to rivals Rangers inside the opening 10 minutes. However, they soon upped the ante and were rewarded with a 3-1 victory, a result that has put their destiny firmly in their own hands.

Motherwell vs Celtic Prediction
Motherwell’s home strength makes them a credible threat to Celtic’s title ambitions this week.
However, the Celts showed character to rise up to the occasion against Rangers last time out and that could once again get them over the line on Wednesday.
