Five people were shot and injured outside of dorm rooms outside of Virginia State University early Saturday just days before classes begin.
All five shooting victims were transported to hospitals. One individual is in critical condition.
One victim has been confirmed as a VSU student. The student has been released from the hospital, Virginia State University said in a statement.
The reason for the shooting is unclear. No arrests have been made amid reports that there are “multiple suspects.”

Five people were shot and wounded, one critically, outside of residence halls at Virginia State University early Saturday, officials said.
One of the shooting victims was a VSU student who was not identified by university officials in a statement released by the university Saturday afternoon. That student’s injuries were not life-threatening and the individual has been discharged from the hospital.
No arrests were announced, and the university earlier reported “multiple suspects” in the shooting that occurred at around 1:28 a.m.
The shootings at the campus in Ettrick, Virginia, prompted a campuswide lockdown. The university said at around 8:20 a.m. that the lockdown had been lifted but there would be a large police presence on campus.
The shooting happened in the area of the Quad Annexes, Virginia State University police said.
All five who were shot were taken to area hospitals, the university said.
Virginia State University released a statement on Saturday.
“At this time, law enforcement does not believe there is an immediate threat tot he VSU campus community. The campus lockdown has been lifted,” VSU said.
