Naomi Osaka delivers brutal anti-ChatGPT stance with easy shade at AI customers

Naomi Osaka recently made her stance clear on using artificial intelligence for scouting opponents’ strengths and weaknesses during a post-match interview at the Italian Open.

After defeating German professional Eva Lys in three sets, Naomi Osaka briefly spoke about the changing landscape of tennis following the rapid rise of AI. When asked if she uses ChatGPT to help her prepare for games, the 4x Grand Slam champion didn’t hold back in voicing her displeasure.

“Speaking to a player who heard from another player they were using ChatGPT and AI to scout opponents, their strengths and weaknesses. As a player, does that sound a bit crazy?” – The moderator asked Osaka

“I mean, for me, yeah, because I don’t use ChatGPT at all. But I know some people use it every day. Also like what happens if the ChatGPT is wrong?” – Osaka responded.

When the moderator probed deeper into the matter, questioning the Japanese’s reluctance to it, Naomi highlighted its impact on the environment.

“I just heard it takes up a lot of water. I kind of like the water we have on earth” – The 28-year-old fired back

Naomi Osaka progresses to Round 32 of Italian Open

The No. 15 seed recently outmatched the Ukrainian-born Eva Lys in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, within two hours and eight minutes of playtime. After Osaka won the first set, she extended her lead in the next two games of the second set but subsequently lost the next four games. Lys eventually got a 5-4 lead before ending the second set on her serve. In the third set, the Japanese managed a 5-3 lead over Lys in the eighth game and ultimately outmatched the World No. 80, bagging a win.

“I think I played really well in the first set, then the second set I had a huge dip. The third, I just tried to I guess focus a lot more on being more intensive.” – Naomi Osaka spoke about the match vs. Eva Lys

“But she (Eva Lys) played really well. My first time playing her. I thought she was returning really well. It put a lot of pressure on me” – Osaka added.

Osaka also spoke about a brief interaction she had with Lys at the net. She revealed she couldn’t fully make out what her opponent said, but it appeared to be positive, which prompted her to smile and wave. In the Rome third round, the 4-time Grand Slam champion will face No 19 seed Diana Shnaider on Sunday.
