Doncic had a team-high eight turnovers. Additionally, his 3-for-11 shooting from deep was cited as part of a broader inefficiency that made it harder for the Lakers to keep up offensively.
He and coach JJ Redick complained about the Pistons’ physical play. They blamed the officiating for allowing more contact, with the Slovenian saying that the Lakers needed to match that physicality.
Despite the loss and missed 3-point shots, Doncic ended the game with 30 points, five rebounds and 11 assists.

NBA legend Reggie Miller called out Luka Doncic’s defensive effort in the loss against the Detroit Pistons. Miller wasn’t impressed particularly on a play where Pistons guard Jalen Duren drove to the basket, pointing out that Doncic did little to help making it frustrating to watch.
“Look at Luka right here. It’s OK, Luka, to move your feet a little bit over and help out. What does he do? He just throws up his hands. This would be frustrating for me,” Miller said during a live broadcast. “And I love Luka. He is great for our game…”
The Lakers generally have struggled defensively this season. They are 25th with a defensive rating of 118.5, with Luka Doncic at 115.6 just below Jared Vanderbilt. He is averaging 33.5 points, 8.2 rebounds and 8.7 assists per game this season.
