The long NYC effort to get Weinstein to pay for his alleged crimes comes to an end.
The convoluted legal drama involving the NYC trials of Harvey Weinstein has finally ended as he is sentenced to 15 years in prison after 2 retrials that ended in hung juries.

Quick explanation: the disgraced Hollywood mogul was convicted in California in 2022 for three sex crimes, committed in 2013, against an unidentified Italian model and actress: forcible rape, Forcible oral copulation, and sexual penetration by a foreign object.
For the crimes in this California trial, he was sentenced to 16 years in prison, a conviction that he is serving now, although he is to be resentenced in the future.
But in New York, things have been even more complex.
His original 2020 NYC conviction was overturned by New York’s highest court in 2024 due to improper admission of testimony from uncharged accusers.
So, Weinstein had a 2025 retrial, in which prosecutors charged him with crimes against three women: the 2025 jury convicted him of one criminal sexual act count (involving Mimi Haley), acquitted him on another (involving Kaja Sokola), but was deadlocked on the Jessica Mann rape charge — leading to a mistrial.
Weinstein had a second retrial on the Jessica Mann charge in 2026, and a mistrial was declared again.
Prosecutors declined to try him again, in part because Jessica Mann refused to testify for a third time and face a grueling cross-examination.
So, now, all that’s left if for the decaying mogul to be sentenced for his conviction for a criminal sexual act count involving Mimi Haley from the 2025 retrial.

“Decrepit Harvey Weinstein will finally learn his fate in a Manhattan courtroom Wednesday — as the disgraced Hollywood mogul faces up to 25 years in prison for sexually assaulting a former TV production worker. Weinstein, 74, was convicted in June 2025 of first-degree criminal sex act for attacking former ‘Project Runway’ production assistant Miriam ‘Mimi’ Haley inside his SoHo apartment in 2006.
[…] The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office is arguing that Weinstein should be locked up for 20 years on the conviction, citing the ‘significant harms’ the ex-Miramax boss caused to Haley. The once powerful producer’s long-delayed sentencing comes nearly a decade after an avalanche of sexual misconduct allegations ended his career and kick-started the #MeToo movement.
[…] Haley testified in two of Weinstein’s trials where she emotionally detailed how she was brutally raped by him inside his apartment. ‘I was trying to get him off of me. I was trying to push him away from me. I was trying to get him to stop kissing me and grabbing me’, Haley told jurors at Weinstein’s retrial in 2025. ‘The unthinkable was happening … I didn’t know when it was ending’.”
While the trials and retrials have been going on, Weinstein has been incarcerated at Rikers Island, battling health concerns while serving his conviction and awaiting his LA resentence.

“Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced movie mogul, was sentenced to 15 years in prison Wednesday morning for a criminal sexual assault conviction from 2025.
Weinstein, 74, was found guilty of committing a sexual act against former Project Runway production assistant Miriam Haley at his Manhattan apartment in 2006.
Haley and Weinstein both spoke in a court in Lower Manhattan during Wednesday’s sentencing. Haley talked about the devastating impact the assault and subsequent trial has had on her life. Weinstein, for his part, expressed remorse for what happened to Haley, and offered an apology to people he has hurt. He went on to say he was innocent.”
