NFL analyst calls out Mike Macdonald as Seahawks HC reveals spending simply 30 minutes with son amid busy NFL schedule

The Seattle Seahawks will host the Los Angeles Rams in the conference championship game on Sunday. It will be Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald’s biggest challenge of his coaching career so far.

Ahead of Sunday’s clash, the second-year coach had a conversation with KING-TV in Seattle. During his conversation, Macdonald revealed that he spends 30 minutes with his son, Jack, on Thursdays.

“On Thursdays, I don’t get to see Jack as much,” Macdonald said. “I try to get home pretty quick to be with him maybe a half-hour an hour before he goes to bed. Then I got a set up at my house where I can go and work on the game plan.”

NFL analyst Vic Lombardi reacted to the interview on X, writing:

“This is not a flex. This is sad.”

Macdonald and his wife, Stephanie, welcomed Jack David in December 2024, during his first season as the Seahawks coach. While Macdonald failed to secure a playoff spot in his first season, the Seahawks emerged as Super Bowl contenders after finishing 14-3 in 2025.

Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald reflects on impact of spending time with son

While Mike Macdonald gets limited time with young son, the Seahawks coach highlighted the importance of spending time with family during the busy season.

“I’m able to spend some more time at home and be with Jack and it kind of lets you get away from everything and see things from a different perspective,” Macdonald said.

The Seahawks are one win away from making the Super Bowl for the first time in more than a decade. They last played in the Super Bowl in 2015 after a miraculous comeback win against the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game.
