The Jacksonville Jaguars have not had many notable additions in free agency. Jaguars general manager James Gladstone explained the reason behind their inactivity.
In conversation with reporters on Thursday, Gladstone said the lack of moves in free agency is because they have decided to prioritize compensatory picks.
Thanks for the submission!
“We’re at a stage now where a higher volume of draft capital is what we’re hunting, and those compensatory picks,” Gladstone said.

“Embarrassing.”
“Bro thinks he’s Omar Khan 😭😭”
“How does losing star playmakers like Travis Etienne and Devin Lloyd sit with a fanbase that was expecting a “win-now” push this offseason?”
“Not hitting free agency hard because you want 4th or 5th round comp picks next season is a terrible strategy.”
“So the Jacksonville Jaguars are basically sitting out free agency and calling it ‘strategy’? Fans supposed to be excited about draft picks in 2027 now?”
Compensatory picks are awarded to teams if they lose free agents and don’t sign other teams’ free agents. The Jaguars are projected to receive three 2027 compensatory picks for linebacker Devin Lloyd, running back Travis Etienne and cornerback Greg Newsome’s departure.

Jaguars general manager James Gladstone waxs lyrical of new signing
While the Jaguars have lost several prominent names in free agency in search for compensatory picks, Jacksonville added promising running back Chris Rodriguez this week.
Jaguars general manager James Gladstone praised his physicality and ability to break tackles in a press conference on Thursday.
“Chris Rodriguez is in fact somebody that, if you watch the tape, you understand very quickly exactly who he is as a football player, the superpowers that he taps into consistently, and if you draw back to his time at Kentucky, it’s remained a constant,” Gladstone said.
“He’s very physical at the point of attack, he has a really good pace in his approach to the line of scrimmage and finding the lanes, obviously an intimate understanding of the system and how Liam [Coen] likes to call things.”
Rodriguez is expected to benefit from his relationship with Jaguars coach Liam Coen, who worked with Rodriguez as Kentucky’s offensive coordinator in 2022.
