NFL followers react as Bucs HC Todd Bowles fires OC Josh Grizzard

Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles fired offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard on Thursday, just one day after the organization announced his return for the 2026 season. The offensive coordinator position has become a revolving door under Bowles’ leadership.

Grizzard, 35, served just one season as the Buccaneers’ play-caller after being promoted from passing game coordinator when Liam Coen departed for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coaching job. NFL insider Ian Rapoport broke the news on Thursday via X.

“A significant change for #Bucs coach Todd Bowles: He’s firing OC Josh Grizzard, per The Insiders. There could be other staff changes. But Baker Mayfield will have a new play-caller,” Rapoport tweeted.

“Not a bad idea to shake it up sometimes but was the offense really the problem?” another fan said.

“He was a horrible OC,” a fan said.

Here are some more reactions.

“lol still doesn’t change the fact that when the OC keeps changing but the results don’t, the spotlight shifts to the head coach,” a fan said.

“Incoming how many coordinators baker mayfield has had stat,” another fan said.

“Baker seemed frustrated with playcalling several times late in the season, seemed imminent,” a fan said.

Quarterbacks coach Thad Lewis was also let go. Lewis had been with Baker Mayfield throughout all three of his seasons in Tampa Bay.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 2025 season under OC Josh Grizzard

The 2025 season showed the complete picture of Tampa Bay’s offensive struggles. After starting the season 6-2, Josh Grizzard’s team went 1-7 to finish 8-9 and miss the playoffs for the first time since 2019, a streak that included four consecutive NFC South titles.

Tampa Bay dropped from No. 3 in the NFL in total yards in 2024 (399.5 yards per game) to No. 21 this season (320.4 yards per game). The offense ranked No. 18 in scoring (averaging 22.4 points per game) and No. 21 in total offense under Grizzard’s playcalling.

With a star-studded roster featuring Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Jalen McMillan, Emeka Egbuka and running back Bucky Irving, the production under Josh Grizzard didn’t match the organization’s expectations.
