Tua Tagovailoa’s season hasn’t gone according to plan by most metrics. Losing Tyreek Hill and Darren Waller certainly didn’t help matters. However, with Waller back, Tagovailoa’s darkest days seemingly were behind him. While that might be true, that doesn’t mean times are bright. The quarterback took some shots from fans on social media for one interception on Sunday.
Tagovailoa targeted Jaylen Waddle on a deep pass to the end zone. The quarterback heaved a high-arcing pass from a clean pocket. Waddle, who had to play defense on the pass. The overthrown ball was intercepted in the end zone by Kool-Aid McKinstry. The sequence uncorked reactions from fans.

Fans took more shots at Tagovailoa, far from impressed by the throw.
“Minkah made such a great play to get a fumble for the Fins and Tua just gives it right back 😠,” one posted.
“I feel like Tua can’t actually read coverage, he just chucks it in there hoping for the best,” one speculated.
“Tua is terrible to watch! Noodle arm zero pocket presence,” one added.
Tagovailoa has seen his reputation take a hit since joining the NFL in 2020. In five years, the quarterback has been to the playoffs just once (he is still mathematically alive in 2025). He has also failed to complete more than 68.5% of his passes in four of those seasons.
Exploring when Miami Dolphins could cut ties with Tua Tagovailoa

Tua Tagovailoa is at risk of finishing with the most interceptions in the NFL with 13 interceptions heading into Week 13. Not many quarterbacks reach another contract with their team after such a statistic.
When the 14th interception was thrown, Tagovailoa became the sole leader in total interceptions, edging out Geno Smith, who was scheduled to play in the following window of games.
As such, many fans and analysts find themselves waiting for news of Tagovailoa’s exit with the writing on the wall. However, thanks to Tagovailoa’s contract, the Miami Dolphins have a significant wait for their next fiscally responsible moment to cut ties.
According to Spotrac, Tua Tagovailoa is technically under contract through 2028. There’s a window much earlier that the Dolphins could move on if they choose. The quarterback could be on his way out as soon as 2027 if the Dolphins choose, as the team is financially incentivized to do so at that time.
Of course, after watching the Denver Broncos make the financially unadvisable move to cut ties with Russell Wilson preemptively, Miami could decide to go that route, especially with a general manager change underway.
