The Packers made a massive move ahead of free agency, handing Sean Rhyan a three-year, $33 million extension on Sunday. The deal keeps the center in Green Bay through the 2028 season.
NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the news on X on Sunday.
Thanks for the submission!
“Just ahead of free agency, the Packers and OT Sean Rhyan reached agreement on a three-year, $33 million extension with a max value of $39 million. The deal contains an $11 million signing bonus, and prevents Rhyan from hitting the free-agent market,” Schefter tweeted.

Fans dropped their reactions in the comments section.
“Three year 33 million with 39 max and 11 signing bonus is elite center money for unproven player. Green Bay betting big on potential,” a fan said.
“Holy overpay,” one fan commented.
“This is insane. What is Gute thinking?” another fan said.
Here are more reactions.
“He wouldn’t start on any other team in the nfl but we paid this fuck 40 ms 😆🤦🏾♂️,” a fan wrote.
“Sean should have moved on to a new club. This extension does not make sense,” one fan tweeted.
“bag secured before the window even opened 💀,” another fan wrote.
While Rhyan spent the majority of his first three seasons as a guard, the Packers see him as their franchise center. He took over the position in mid-2025 following a season-ending injury to Elgton Jenkins. His performance pushed Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst to secure him with a top-tier contract.
Packers’ cap space and free agency targets
The Packers were roughly $5 million to $7 million over the $301.2 million salary cap before Sean Rhyan‘s extension. However, their front office has several “levers” to pull. By restructuring the contracts of guard Aaron Banks and safety Xavier McKinney, the team can free up to $52 million in cap space.
Green Bay traded defensive tackle Colby Wooden to the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday in exchange for veteran linebacker Zaire Franklin. The team is expected to target some “second-contract” players in free agency to address depth issues in the secondary and at edge positions.
The Packers have been linked to defensive end Trey Hendrickson, cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt and linebackers Leo Chenal and Nakobe Dean.
