It was Stafford’s first passing touchdown of the night, as Kyren Williams had rushed once in each of the two quarters in the first half. Blake Corum would also rush for six with less than 30 seconds left in the third quarter.
Tom Brady lauded Matthew Stafford’s continued excellence even at 37
As a veteran of over 15 seasons in the NFL, Matthew Stafford has experienced various highs and lows, from winning a Super Bowl title to experiencing double-digit records. Currently, he is playing some of the best football of his career at 37 years old, throwing 35 touchdowns against just four interceptions, and Tom Brady is in awe at that.
Speaking with Colin Cowherd on FS1’s The Herd on Thursday, the quarterback-turned-commentator said:
“Everyone wants to run the last three miles like Philip Rivers is doing, but it’s hard to run all 26. And it’s not just running the 26 miles, it’s also the preparation for the running… But Matt has just been awesome. He’s having an incredible season, an MVP caliber season.”
Even his opponents have been admiring his dominance. Lions defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard said of him during practice week:
“I was just watching tape on him, and I saw him make a linebacker drift 3 yards and just put it right there behind his ear and kind of wink. I’m like, ‘(expletive).’ … (I) have the utmost respect for him. I really do, man. To be playing at the level that he’s playing at, at his age, is pretty remarkable.”
And he shared his secret to stopping him:
“I tell the guys, in zone coverage don’t trust his eyes because he’s going to lie to you.”
The Rams defeated the Lions 41-34 and will next visit the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday. Kickoff is at 5:15 pm ET on Amazon Prime Video.
