The Cleveland Browns are reportedly in a complex position with Jim Schwartz after agreeing to bring in Todd Monken as their new head coach. The former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator returned to the Browns after serving the same role in 2019, which left Schwartz relegated.
Although he wasn’t considered a favorite for the job, the defensive coordinator had reportedly warned that he would leave the team if he didn’t get it. After the Browns made the decision, new details about Schwartz’s course of action came to light.
Thanks for the submission!
According to insider Jordan Schultz, Jim Schwartz could make things difficult for the team on his way out.

“Schwartz expected to get the HC job, especially after Grant Udinski dropped out. When informed this morning that the job was going to Todd Monken, Schwartz said goodbye to a few people and angrily told others he was ‘done’ with the Browns,” Schultz wrote.

“Several players, including Myles Garrett, have a strong affinity for Schwartz. It will be worth watching how players react to all of this. Schwartz is under contract with the Browns, so he can’t just leave. But as one source put it: ‘If it has to get ugly, Schwartz is someone who will be perfectly fine making it ugly.'”
Jim Schwartz has been with the Cleveland Browns since 2023, making the Browns’ defense a strong unit. They allowed the fewest yards in Schwartz’s first season and ranked fourth in 2025. The situation could get tense if the coach and the team don’t see eye to eye anymore.

Browns reporter warns about potential effects of Jim Schwartz’s departure
Browns reporter Ashley Bastock said on Wednesday that if Schwartz ends up leaving the franchise, it could be detrimental to some of their best defenders, including Myles Garrett.
“I don’t know that people understand how bad it could get for #Browns if Schwartz leaves, and on bad terms. Players on that defense, including Myles Garrett and Denzel Ward, love playing for Jim. The impact of the ripple effect could be incomprehensible.”
It doesn’t seem that the Browns’ issues are over after signing a new head coach.
