NFL suspends and fines 49ers proprietor Jed York for violation of conduct coverage tied to prostitution arrest

Going hunting for a prostitute in a trailer park wasn’t the smartest thing San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York ever did and the NFL on Friday fined and suspended him for it.

The NFL announced York has been suspended six games and fined $500,000 for violating the league’s Personal Conduct Policy. Three games of the suspension have already been served by York.

York released a statement in which he apologized for his “inexcusable mistake.”

“Today, the NFL concluded its review, and I accept its decision in fully,” York said in a statement. “To my family, to the players, coaches, and employees of the San Francisco 49ers, to our fans and partners, I am deeply sorry.

“This was an inexcusable mistake and I take full responsibility. What I did does not reflect my values or the man I strive to be for my family. While I fell short of the model I want to set for my sons, I now hope to show them the importance of owning up to one’s failures, and that even our worst moments teach us to be better.

“Leading the 49ers is a privilege, and one I don’t take lightly. Your trust will have to be earned back over time, and I look forward to that work ahead.”

York had $160 on his person when he was taken into custody by the East Palestine police department in conjunction with the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force on Aug. 23.

The arrest happened when York allegedly responded to an online prostitution advertisement and upon his arrival at a meeting site that was actually a residential trailer park.

So the NFL’s fine and suspension, court costs and other fees, makes this a pretty expensive, not to mention embarrassing, attempt to hire an imaginary sex worker.

York has stayed away from the 49ers since he pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools, meaning his cell phone, which he used to seek out the meeting.

A BRUTAL SUMMER JUST GOT WORSE FOR THE 49ERS AND THEY DON’T HAVE AN ANSWER FOR IT

York was sentenced to two days in the Columbiana County Jail with credit for one day already served, ordered to complete an online anti-prostitution course, and fined $1,150.

Adding the court fine, the NFL fine, and the $160 seized during the sting and forfeited to the task force, York’s total cost will be $501,310.

“During the time the league’s investigation has been proceeding, York has stayed away from the 49ers first three regular-season games, as well as from NFL league meetings,” the NFL said in a statement.

“Those three missed games are counted toward his suspension, and he may return on Oct. 20.”

Despite his statement, York has not answered questions in person about this incident. But the NFL has a fall meeting scheduled for Oct. 20-22, and reporters will surely be present.
